Cole Strikes Out Season High 14, Bregman Stays Hot in 8-6 Win Over Rays

Gerrit Cole racked up a season high 14 strikeouts Wednesday night as the Astros beat the Rays, 8-6. Cole tossed 6.2 innings, gave up four runs on six hits while walking one. He was given a no-decision which stops is career-long winning streak but set a franchise record with his 15th double digit strikeout game this season. That mark broke J.R. Richard's record who had 14 such games in 1978 and 1979.

Houston used a three run 7th inning to secure the win over the Rays. Yuli Gurriel hit his 27th homer of the season in the 4th inning to tie the game at 3. Alex Bregman continued his hot August with three more hits and an RBI. Springer and Gurriel both had two RBI in the victory. Michael Brantley was unable to extend his 19 game hitting streak by going a rare 0-4.

Zack Greinke will start for the Astros Thursday afternoon. Greinke is 4-0 since becoming an Astro at the trade deadline. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10pm.
